How ‘The Lakeside Teacher’ Got Started

If you follow me on Instagram then you probably know that I love working as a team! I knew I wanted to share my resources with more teachers other than just my Grade 1 team, but how? To be honest, I have accumulated so many resources over the years that I never really needed to use Teachers Pay Teachers that often, so it wasn’t yet on my mind as a way to share my resources. This is where “The Lakeside Teacher” Instagram account started! I thought it would be fun to share my ideas, tips, and tricks on social media and connect with other teachers outside of my own school.

I made my first *teacher* Instagram post in 2018. How did I come up with the name “The Lakeside Teacher”? I am lucky enough to live and work steps from the lake and one day that name came to me and I thought it was perfect!

Throughout a year or so of sharing on social media, I noticed that many Instagram teachers also had Teachers Pay Teachers stores. This was new to me and it seemed like A LOT of work. I thought “how do these teachers work on teacher-related stuff after teaching all day / all week”? Little did I know, I would soon have my own store, and I too became obsessed with creating and selling my own resources for primary French teachers. TpT has become such a positive creative outlet for me and it certainly doesn’t feel like work :).

When my store was just a baby with 44 resources!

The friends I made through social media who also had TpT stores ended up becoming my mentors. They provided me with feedback, answered my “how to” questions, and basically provided me with support and encouragement as I navigated the process of opening my very own TpT store. I’ve also learned new skills such as (very basic) graphic design!

While I do love social media/Instagram, there is actually so much I want to say and sometimes I hold back because I don’t want my captions or stories to be *too* long. So, I decided to start a blog and I did.

So, thank you for reading my very first Blog post. I look forward to sharing all of the tips and tricks I’ve learned throughout my twelve years of teaching as well as how I use my resources in my own classroom. I am so proud of my TpT store and how much I’ve learned to get here!
